OMT Junior Faculty Paper Development Workshop-
August 13, 2011 Saturday 8:30-11:00 AM
The growing demands for publication in top journals place increasing stress on junior faculty to develop their skills. Critical criteria used by top journals to evaluate submissions are often tacit, frustrating the efforts of even the most industrious of junior scholars. OMT is taking positive steps to bridge the resulting knowledge gap by providing opportunities for interaction between those who have internalized the criteria and those who wish to learn them. This workshop is an opportunity for transfer of tacit knowledge between senior scholars who have been successful in overcoming cultural barriers and aspiring junior faculty who wish to emulate them.
We invite junior faculty to submit a research paper for which they would like help from an OMT senior scholar to advance the paper toward publication.
The participating senior scholars have successfully published in top North American and European journals and many are Senior Editors at top journals. They include but are not limited to (barring AoM programming time conflicts):
The mentoring session consists of (a) Brief presentations summarizing the key insights of senior faculty and (b) 90-minute, one-on-one dialog between a senior scholar and Jr. Faculty registrant about a specific paper. The workshop is limited to no more than 15 papers.
Criteria for participation are: (1) Jr. Faculty must be within the first four years after the gaining their PhD degree, (2) Preference will be given to Jr. Faculty who are current members of OMT, (3) Preference will be given to Jr. Faculty trained outside North America, and (4) Preference will be given to those topic areas that reside within OMT’s expertise areas such as institutional theory, networks, organizational performance/learning/innovation, identity and discourse.
